Hugo Chavez reiterated his support for Haiti's reconstruction and promised strengthening of the "Petro Caribe"

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez reiterated Saturday his commitment to supporting Haiti's reconstruction and strengthen the program "Petro Caribe" in effect since President Rene Preval, following the summit of the community of Heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean (CELAC).

The Venezuelan head of state responded to the speech of his Haitian counterpart Michel Joseph Martelly, who before the assembly of CELAC, was grateful to him for aid to Haiti before and after the earthquake. He particularly mentioned the agreement "Petro Caribe."

A statement of the Presidency of Haiti said that Mr. Martelly took the opportunity to remember the contribution of Haitian independence of the countries of Latin America. He also maintained the assembly of its programs in education and assistance to mothers in need.

Emphasizing the commitment of the current Executive Haiti for good governance, Mr Martelly took over the slogan that he launched in his inauguration about the country's openness to foreign direct investment.

The Haitian president has finally called for the integration and solidarity of all members of CELAC.

The statement of the Presidency which provides information on the statements made in Caracas by President Martelly does not specify whether formally sworn allegiance to CELAC for Haiti to become a full member of that entity,
